Institute for Humane Education President Zoe Weil: Exposing Hearts, Shaping Minds, and Focusing Efforts.

It doesn’t require changing fields or jobs or moving or doing anything to completely uproot your life.

You can from where you are now.

Friend and colleague in advocacy Zoe Weil from the Institute for Humane Education gave a TEDx talk entitled, “The World Becomes What You Teach.” Zoe is a mover and a shaker. She doesn’t sit back and wait for things to change – she changes things.

Through our youth.

And she encourages you to do this same. Continue reading

Antibiotics for Livestock

Bruce Friedrich serves as senior policy director for Farm Sanctuary, a national farmed animal protection organization. He wrote an excellent letter to the editor published in the NY Times in response to a recent editorial regarding antibiotic use on farms. See and comment on Mr. Friedrich’s letter to the NY Times here.

To the Editor:

Re “The Peril of Antibiotic Use on Farms” (editorial, Dec. 22):

The Food and Drug Administration’s antibiotic “guidance” is worse than complete inaction, because it implies that if pharmaceutical companies and industrial farms comply with the F.D.A.’s suggestions, antibiotic use will decline. But the agency is asking drug companies only to change its labels — removing statements that the antibiotics can be used to promote livestock growth — and asking farms to ensure that drugs are used solely to treat, prevent or control disease. RT Live Coverage of our Ag-Gag Lawsuit Against Utah

We are going to win. Animal Agribusiness wishes to hide illegal conduct just as we’ve exposed time and time again. Ag-Gag laws are meant to criminalize whistleblowing and watchdog protection groups from exposing the horrific violence happening for the production of meat, dairy, and eggs.

Stand strong against animal abuse.

What can you do to stop cruelty to animals?!

How can you help?! Continue reading

Dairy Carrie – She’s Rather Scary

(The above video was released today following a Mercy For Animals undercover investigation into a Wisconsin dairy facility.)

Robert Grillo, founder and director of Free From Harm (an excellent blog that I highly recommend) emailed me today to share a blog post by “DairyCarrie,” a small dairy farmer.

Of course, I know what a “family farm”can mean as do many of my kind readers. My background is marketing and I know very well how important that little term is for yanking cloth over the public’s eyes. Folks – it means a family owns the company. That’s it. That’s all it means.

A family farm is still a company and animals are still left in the dust (be they so lucky) when it comes to animal welfare.

Farmed animals’ lives suck. Continue reading

Cows Beaten, Stabbed & Dragged at DiGiorno Pizza Cheese Supplier

Every DiGiorno pizza comes with a slice of cruelty.

A breaking Mercy For Animals undercover investigation reveals sadistic animal abuse at Wiese Brothers Farms in Wisconsin—a major dairy supplier to DiGiorno.

MFA’s hidden camera captured the following horrific abuses:

  • Workers viciously kicking, beating and violently whipping cows in the face and body
  • Cows suffering from open wounds, infections and injuries left to languish without proper veterinary care
  • Workers dragging cows by their fragile legs and necks using chains attached to a tractor
  • Filthy conditions, including feces-covered floors that caused cows to regularly slip, fall and injure themselves
  • Baby calves being dragged away from their mothers immediately after birth and having their tails docked without any painkillers

News of MFA’s latest investigation broke this morning on NBC National News. Continue reading
