Re “The Peril of Antibiotic Use on Farms” (editorial, Dec. 22):
The Food and Drug Administration’s antibiotic “guidance” is worse than complete inaction, because it implies that if pharmaceutical companies and industrial farms comply with the F.D.A.’s suggestions, antibiotic use will decline. But the agency is asking drug companies only to change its labels — removing statements that the antibiotics can be used to promote livestock growth — and asking farms to ensure that drugs are used solely to treat, prevent or control disease. Feeding plants to animals then eating the animals is like filtering water through the sewer then drinking it.
We are going to win. Animal Agribusiness wishes to hide illegal conduct just as we’ve exposed time and time again. Ag-Gag laws are meant to criminalize whistleblowing and watchdog protection groups from exposing the horrific violence happening for the production of meat, dairy, and eggs.
Stand strong against animal abuse.

Of course, I know what a “family farm”can mean as do many of my kind readers. My background is marketing and I know very well how important that little term is for yanking cloth over the public’s eyes. Folks – it means a family owns the company. That’s it. That’s all it means.
A family farm is still a company and animals are still left in the dust (be they so lucky) when it comes to animal welfare.
